Tottenham – Thames Water Timber Heading London

Client: Barnes Webster (Residential Developer) Duration: 2 Weeks Value: £30,000

The client requirement was to carry out a sewer connection to a Thames Water Victorian trunk sewer for a large private development in Tottenham High Road. Original plans and consent granted by Thames water allowed for conventional open cut methods with a Thames Water approved manhole constructed over the existing Thames Water sewer. This involved 8 linear metres of excavation 4 meters deep crossing the footway, bus lane and lane one of Tottenham High Road. Along with the shaft excavation for the manhole construction this process would have caused major disruption to the London road network.

Our appointment to carry out the Thames Water sewer connection works allowed us to liaise direct with TW and obtain permission to carry out the sewer connection via a timber heading. A 4 meter deep driving shaft was excavated and 10 meters of timber heading was driven to the existing Thames Water sewer. The sewer connection was made, 150mm dia pipe installed and the driving shaft used to construct a 1200mm dia demarcation chamber.

The sewer connection was completed in two weeks with no Incidents or disruption to the public and a cost saving for a delighted client.
