We were instructed by Aldi Superstores through their management company to complete a civil engineering package for them at their new store on Redbourn Road, Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire.
The civil engineering contractor’s package had several elements to it. The majority of the civil engineering works was comprised of the Section 278 works (S278). These S278 works were monitored by Herts Highways from Herts County Council and were conducted under the Herts Highways NRSWA Permit Application.
A 10m run of drainage at 5-6m depth needed replacing. The drainage assets are owned by Thames Water Utilities (TWU) and the deep drainage repairs were monitored by Thames Water inspectors until signed off.
The rest of the civil engineering works consisted of standard footway construction, installing knee rail fencing, the surfacing of footways and carriageways. There were street lights and signs installed with ducting and power as well as crossing points, tactiles kerbing.
As a civil engineering contractor we were happy with our client’s response to the finished section 278 works. This resulted in immediately being asked to price further S278 works for the Aldi Superstore Group.
